India’s cybersecurity agency – Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) – has started probe against Apple over alleged charges of hacking, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology secretary S Krishnan said on Thursday. The remarks by Krishnan was made during an event related to Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology-National Science Foundation (Meity-NSF) research collaboration. The secretary also said that Apple would be cooperating in the probe. The statement by the secretary holds significance as Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said earlier this week that Apple had been asked to give clarification that if its devices were secure then why “threat notifications” were received by people in over 150 countries.Responding to the claims of the members of the opposition parties, Apple Inc said in a statement on 31 October that it was possible that some threat notifications may be false alarms and some attacks may not be detected.Without stating the reasons behind warnings, the iPhone maker said that “Apple does not attribute the threat notifications to any specific state-sponsored attacker”.

Indian Govt Initiates Probe Against iPhone Hacking Charges
20:20 02.11.2023 (Updated: 17:40 03.11.2023) India’s Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said earlier that investigation would be done over threat notifications received on iPhones of several opposition politicians.
The statement by the secretary holds significance as Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said earlier this week that Apple had been asked to give clarification that if its devices were secure then why “threat notifications” were received by people in over 150 countries.
Members of several opposition parties on Tuesday had claimed that they received an alert from Apple warning them of “state-sponsored attackers trying to remotely compromise” their iPhones and alleged hacking by the government.
Responding to the claims of the members of the opposition parties,
Apple Inc said in a statement on 31 October that it was possible that some threat notifications may be false alarms and some attacks may not be detected.
Without stating the reasons behind warnings, the iPhone maker said that “Apple does not attribute the threat notifications to any specific state-sponsored attacker”.
