Russian Warships Arrive at Indian Port of Visakhapatnam
17:29 18.11.2023 (Updated: 18:20 18.11.2023) Military relations between India and Russia seem to be strengthening, despite Western efforts to steer New Delhi away from its strategic partner, Moscow.
Naval vessels belonging to Russia's Pacific fleet touched down at Visakhapatnam, a port located in the eastern part of India, the Eurasian country's Navy said on Saturday.
"A detachment of warships of the Pacific Fleet, consisting of the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs and the medium sea tanker Pechenga, as part of a long-distance sea voyage in the Asia-Pacific region, arrived on a business call at the port of Visakhapatnam of India," The Russian Navy's statement read.
Upon their arrival at the
Indian Navy's base on the South Asian nation's eastern seaboard, the Russian personnel were given a rousing reception
with other events like cultural programs and sporting competitions planned for the coming days.
The fleet of Russian warships is expected to stay at the Visakhapatnam port till November 20.
The development comes amid a growing military bonhomie between India and Russia.
Earlier this week, Russia's state-run weapons exporter Rosoboronexport announced that it was holding discussions with Indian officials
about the possibility of joint production of aviation platforms for the world's largest democratic nation's Air Force.
"Rosoboronexport is working with Indian private and state enterprises to organize joint production of aviation weapons and integrate them into India's existing aviation fleet," the firm's General Director Alexander Mikheev told Sputnik during the Dubai Airshow.
