A democratic government in Pakistan would help resolve issues within the country, experts believe.
India has always favoured the idea of Pakistan having a democratically elected independent government that could work in harmony with the expectations of its people, Indian politicians and experts feel.
Interacting with Sputnik India, general secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI), D. Raja said India would always welcome it.
"We, as a country, would be really happy if our immediate neighbor is able to elect and install a democratic government," Raja, who is a well-known face of the CPI in the Indian political circles, said, adding that it would help create a positive atmosphere in the region.
The CPI leader also expressed hope saying that in case Pakistan is able to organize successful elections, it would be good for all its neighbors, Including India as "we want to have good relations with them".
"When you have people's government in place, many positive changes take place and it's true for every country, Pakistan is not an exception to it," he said.
However, former leader of the
Indian National Congress (INC, which is popularly known as Congress), Kapil Sibal, who has served in various capacities in several Congress-led governments at the Centre during the past decades, expressed apprehensions
if Pakistan would actually be able to have democratically elected government through the polls that are expected to be held early next year."India would welcome a democratically elected government in Pakistan but the situation is fragile in the country," the veteran leader, who is also a lawyer by profession, said, adding that the country in question has to do a lot to ensure a democratic setup.
Another expert on the issue told Sputnik India that
India prefers democracy, be it in the country or elsewhere in the world.
"India promotes democracy and cultural diversity everywhere," Qamar Agha, an expert on Pakistan-related issues, said, explaining that India always wants good relations with Pakistan and other neighbors.
On how important it is for India to have a stable and democratically elected government in Pakistan, Agha said: "Democracy is the simplest form of governance, which ensures public good".
