India has reached out to many African nations lately to become a key player in the continent's defense market, and the Indian Navy's continuing training programs there are part of this endeavor.
With India continuing its outreach to Africa, Indian Navy warship Sumedha has reached Kenya's newly developed Port Lamu on a long-term deployment, the South Asian nation's blue water force said on Sunday.
According to the Indian Navy, its personnel will train Kenyan Navy men in maritime operations.
In addition to that, "personnel from both navies will engage in a wide range of professional interactions, deck visits, and sporting exchanges, aimed at enhancing cooperation and exchanging best practices."
"A joint Yoga session, deck reception, medical camp, and a Maritime Partnership Exercise have been planned as part of the visit," the navy added.
The Indian Navy is at the forefront of the world's largest democratic country's goal of having strong military ties with nations in Africa.
As part of these efforts, Indian naval vessels and their men are making regular visits to friendly sovereign states.
For example, in the last one and half months, Indian Navy warships have visited Mauritius, Madagascar, Mozambique, and Namibia amongst others.
