After the Taliban* stormed back to power in Kabul, forcing a hasty withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan, Washington has sanctioned its representatives and frozen the country's sovereign funds.
The Taliban hit back at the US after the Joe Biden administration announced the imposition of sanctions on two of its representatives during the weekend.
The movement stressed that Washington should not preach to Kabul about human rights violations when the US is helping Israel to commit war crimes during its military operation against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
"While the US is one of the biggest violators of human rights due to its support for Israel, accusing others of violating human rights and imposing sanctions on them is unjustifiable and irrational," the Islamic movement's spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement.
"These sanctions have no results and if it continues, it will not have any negative impact on the Islamic Emirate and people of Afghanistan because we don't have any financial or commercial engagement with the US," he added.
Mujahid's remarks came following the embargo announced by the US Department of Treasury on Fariduddin Mahmood and Khalid Hanafi.
According to the US Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control, Mahmood and Hanafi were sanctioned due to their role in restricting women's rights in the country, including a complete ban on their employment and education barring primary school.
"Mahmood is a member of the Taliban's so-called 'cabinet' that made decisions to close education centres and schools to women and girls after the sixth grade. He serves as the so-called head of the Afghanistan Academy of Sciences and supported the education-related bans on women and girls," the US Treasury Department's statement said.
Meanwhile, Mujahid's reference to America's continuing support to Israel came in the context of Washington vetoing a Security Council resolution that sought an immediate pause to the Jewish state's ongoing military operation in Gaza.
Following the surprise Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 that killed 1200 people in the Mediterranean country, Tel Aviv has bombarded Gaza besides sending ground troops, which so far left nearly 18,000 dead in the densely-populated coastal enclave.
Among the 18,000 that have lost lives in the besieged Palestinian territory, a majority of them are children and women, mostly civilians.
