A 45-member Indian Armed Forces contingent joined Vietnamese defence personnel as troops from the two countries kickstarted the 11-day-long military drills in Hanoi on Monday.The Indian contingent features personnel from the Engineer Regiment of Bengal Engineer Group and Army Medical Corps, which play a critical role in wartime operations.While the Bengal Engineer Group carries out the task of constructing bridges, roads, and other infrastructure needed for the movement of troops and weapons platforms during a conflict, the Army Medical Corps is responsible for treating wounded soldiers.The annual exercise between the armies of the two countries, codenamed VINBAX, has been held since 2018.Every year, these war games take place on an alternative basis in Vietnam and India.The previous edition of the VINBAX military drills was conducted at Chandimandir Military Station in Panchkula city of Haryana in August last year.

Indian Army Kicks Off Joint Drills With Vietnam Amid Growing Defense Ties
17:05 11.12.2023 (Updated: 17:12 11.12.2023) In an attempt to become a major exporter of military hardware in Southeast Asia, India has been focusing on enhancing cooperation with countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
A 45-member Indian Armed Forces contingent joined Vietnamese defence personnel as troops from the two countries kickstarted the 11-day-long military drills in Hanoi on Monday.
"The joint exercise will help in promoting understanding and interoperability between the two contingents and further strengthen the defence cooperation between the friendly armies," India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a statement.
The Indian contingent features personnel from the Engineer Regiment of Bengal Engineer Group and Army Medical Corps, which play a critical role in wartime operations.
While the Bengal Engineer Group carries out the task of constructing bridges, roads, and other infrastructure needed for the movement of troops and weapons platforms during a conflict, the Army Medical Corps is responsible for treating wounded soldiers.
"Ideas will be exchanged on modern methods to construct roads, culverts, helipads, ammunition shelter and observation posts in operational areas. In addition, rehearsals will be carried out for drills related to combat engineering and combat medical tasks," the MoD added.
The annual exercise between the armies of the two countries, codenamed
VINBAX, has been
