With the Indian armed forces currently undergoing a modernisation process, the country's arch-rival Pakistan is trying to catch up on all fronts, and the induction of advanced drones is a step in that direction.
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has inducted a new batch of combat drones, with the ceremony taking place at the Murid airbase in the country's Punjab province.
The brand new drones inducted into the PAF this week have been developed and manufactured either by Pakistan's ally China or close partner Turkey, or by an indigenous company.
The UAVs now available to PAF personnel are Baykars Akinci, GIDS Shahpar-II, Wing Loong II, Bayraktar TB2 and Loitering Munitions, which have never before been used by the soldiers of the South Asian nation.
While the Baykar Akinci and Bayraktar TB2 are Turkish-built UAVs, the Wing Loong II was designed and manufactured by China's Chengdu Corporation. The GIDS Shahpar-II, on the other hand, is a product of Pakistan's Global Industrial and Defence Solutions.
In addition to procuring a variety of drones from China and Turkiye, Pakistan is building its capacity to develop cutting-edge UAVs at its National Aerospace Science and Technology Park (NASTP).
