As India is witnessing a rising threat from drones, especially from Pakistan, India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has come up with a counter-technology.The development of the technology to neutralise drones by India's premier defence research organisation comes at a time when it is developing a wide range of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for the country's armed forces. As of late, India has put a lot of thrust into designing and developing drones of different types amid the success of UAVs in Russia's ongoing special military operation in Ukraine. In particular, Russia's upgraded Lancet drone has become a headache for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the East European nation's military chief General Valery Zaluzhny admitted in November 2023.Described as one of the most lethal weapons platforms unveiled by Moscow in Kiev, the British Ministry of Defence acknowledged that it is a highly effective and potent UAV that is causing a lot of pain to Ukrainian troops. The Lancet's success in Ukraine earned the drone, rich plaudits from Rustem Klupov, a Russian military veteran, who took part in active combat in Afghanistan, and Chechnya.Against this backdrop, the DRDO has been working on enhancing India's drone warfare capabilities and the development of anti-UAV technology is part of that plan.Recently a parliamentary committee report also mentioned that DRDO was on course to develop "an indigenous counter-drone technology".The report further underlined that the DRDO-developed technology will have the ability to detect and destroy all types of enemy drones, including soft and hard kill of targets.

Amid Rising Threat From Drones, DRDO Develops Counter Technology
In 2023, the Border Security Force (BSF) downed over 100 Pakistani drones used for smuggling narcotics and arms into India, with New Delhi enhancing technology to counter border threats.
As India is witnessing a rising threat from drones, especially from Pakistan, India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has come up with a counter-technology.
The development of the technology to neutralise drones by India's premier defence research organisation comes at a time when it is
developing a wide range of
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for the country's armed forces.
"Anti-drone technology is where the focus should be, and in that, DRDO is working very closely with the industry. We are also doing a lot of R&D for anti-drone protection against these types of drones," a DRDO official said in a statement.
As of late, India has put a lot of thrust into designing and developing drones of different types amid the success of UAVs in Russia's ongoing special military operation in Ukraine.
In particular, Russia's upgraded
Lancet drone
has become a headache for the
Ukrainian Armed Forces, the East European nation's military chief General Valery Zaluzhny admitted in November 2023.
Described as one of the most lethal weapons platforms unveiled by Moscow in Kiev, the British Ministry of Defence acknowledged that it is a highly effective and potent UAV that is causing a lot of pain to Ukrainian troops.
The Lancet's success in Ukraine earned the drone, rich plaudits from Rustem Klupov, a Russian military veteran, who took part in active combat in Afghanistan, and Chechnya.
"The Lancet, which can hit targets 40-50 km away, depending on weather conditions, is a very powerful and accurate weapon system. It combines accuracy, range, and the power of a destructive charge. Depending on its mission, it can be equipped with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead. And this 'tandem' warhead is used against armored targets," Klupov told Sputnik.
Against this backdrop, the DRDO has been working on enhancing India's drone warfare capabilities and the development of anti-UAV technology
is part of that plan.
Recently a parliamentary committee report also mentioned that DRDO was on course to develop "an indigenous counter-drone technology".
The report further underlined that the DRDO-developed technology will have the ability to detect and destroy all types of enemy drones, including soft and hard kill of targets.
