Indian Government Gears Up for Pivotal Parliamentary Budget Session

The Budget Session of the Indian Parliament will begin on Wednesday. During the session, the government will present the interim budget as the session is held before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
At a meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led federal government told the opposition parties that it was ready to discuss any issue during the upcoming budget parliamentary session.

The budget session will begin on Wednesday and the government will present the interim budget as the session is being held before the 2024 General election, which is expected to be held in April-May.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, Defence Minister and Deputy Leader of the Lok Sabha Rajnath Singh and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal represented the government.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders K Suresh and Pramod Tiwari, Sudip Bandopadhyay of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), T R Baalu of the Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Rahul Shewale of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), ST Hasan of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Jayadev Galla of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were among the MPs present at the meeting in the Parliament House complex.
Congress MP Tiwari, standing in for Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha (upper house of parliament) Mallikarjun Kharge, said the issue of 'violent attack' on the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi in Assam had been raised.
Kharge was in Bihar to participate in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and couldn't attend the all-party meeting.
The upcoming budget session will be short, starting on 31 January and ending on 9 February. It will begin with President Droupadi Murmu's address and will be the last before the Lok Sabha elections.
