The 67-year-old Champai Soren, on Friday, was sworn in as the 12th chief minister of Jharkhand.A prominent tribal leader and politician, Soren was born into an agricultural family, and received his education till 10th standard from a government school.Soren, widely recognized as the 'Jharkhand Tiger', earned this title for his significant contribution to the movement for the establishment of a separate Jharkhand state from Bihar in the late 90s.Soren emerged victorious as an independent MLA in the by-election held for the Saraikela constituency in 1991.In November 2000, Jharkhand became a separate state from Bihar, and in 2005, Soren was elected as a legislator from Saraikela in Jharkhand, representing the JMM party.He has since taken on multiple roles as a Cabinet Minister, including Transport, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste & Backward Class Welfare, Food Supplies, Science and Technology, Labour, and Housing.

Soren, widely recognized as the '
Jharkhand Tiger', earned this title for his significant contribution to the movement for the establishment of a
separate Jharkhand state from
Bihar in the late 90s.
This was the starting point of his political journey, as he became a member of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and earned the trust of Shibu Soren, the former chief minister and father of Hemant Soren.
Soren emerged victorious as an independent MLA in the by-election held for the Saraikela constituency in 1991.
