The Indian Air Force displayed its air defence readiness and capability with a special landing exercise of a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.The drill involved a Sukhoi-30 MKI landing on the expressway as part of the IAF’s preparedness to use national highways for emergency landings by fighter aircraft in wartime.The drill comes weeks after the centre approved a significant upgrade of the Su-30MKI fighter jet fleet, which is often deployed by the Indian Air Force in bilateral and multilateral air exercises.The modernisation of Su-30MKI fighter jets will be carried out by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).The Su-30MKI is a fourth-generation fighter jet designed as an India-specific variant of the Sukhoi Su-30, which is a further development of the Soviet-era Su-27.
