Relations between Bangladesh and Russia are at an all-time high at present, with the Eurasian nation developing the South Asian country's power sector while the former shipping garment items to the latter amidst Moscow's military conflict with Kiev.
Bangladesh Textiles Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak has confirmed that the South Asian country was looking forward to exporting Jute-made items to Russia after the success of its readymade garments in the world's largest sovereign state by land area.
"Russia can be a big export market for Bangladeshi jute and jute-made goods," Nanak told reporters in Dhaka.
It is worth highlighting that Bangladesh's shipments of garments to Russia have been steadily growing despite unilateral economic sanctions imposed on Moscow by the US and its Western allies.
In 2023, Bangladesh's apparel exports to Russia surged by over 13 percent compared to the previous year.

During the previous 12 months, Russia exported readymade garments worth $479 million from Bangladesh while in 2022 the overall value of such shipments stood at $423.21.

Bangladesh's thrust on increasing its exports to Russia comes in the aftermath of President Vladimir Putin's government playing a pivotal role in both financing and setting up the country's maiden Nuclear Power Plant in Rooppur, approximately 160 kilometers from Dhaka.
Of the four nuclear reactors being established at the plant, two are expected to become operational by the end of this year.
