India is looking to bolster its bilateral relations with Russia in the realm of nuclear energy to meet the growing demand for energy.
Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr S. Jaishankar has said during a press conference that the country is actively searching for more locations to set up Russian nuclear reactors as part of its efforts to expand its nuclear energy capacity.

"We are discussing the progress made at Kudankulam (nuclear power plant built in collaboration with Russia). In fact, we are looking for additional sites for Russian reactors", he said, answering questions about the development of the Indian nuclear energy sector.

The external affairs minister was in Russia last December when the two sides signed some "very important" agreements related to the construction of future power-generating units at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.
Since 1998, Russia has built four reactors of 1,000 MW each at Kudankulam, India's largest nuclear power plant, and two more of the same capacity are being built.
The station's first reactor was launched in 2014. The construction of the nuclear power plant is planned to be completed in 2026-2027.
In December 2021, India decided to allocate a second site for a nuclear power plant based on a Russian project.
