India and Russia recently announced the expansion of their cooperation in the domain of nuclear energy with the former stating that the latter would assist it in setting up more reactors in the country.
India will participate in programs of MBIR research reactor, which is currently under construction in the Eurasian nation.
The Russia's Multipurpose Fast Research Reactor (MBIR) is Russia's largest experimental fast neutron reactor.
"Fast topics, fast neutron reactors are at the top, at the highest point of interest of Indian partners. Obviously, they will participate in one or another program of our experimental MBIR reactor, which is being created in Dimitrovgrad and will be launched in the coming years," Russia's state atomic energy corporation Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev informed reporters.
The development comes on the heels of an announcement made by India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar that the South Asian nation was set to collaborate with Russia for the establishment of new nuclear power plants at multiple sites in the world's largest democratic sovereign state.
"We are discussing the progress made at Kudankulam (nuclear power plant built in collaboration with Russia). In fact, we are looking for additional sites for Russian reactors," India's top diplomat said earlier this month.
