Russia has repeatedly stated that the West continues its attempts to stop the rise of emerging economies, particularly countries of the Global South, through the imposition of hegemonic policies, including economic sanctions.
The West is scared of the rise of the Global South, and it is because of this that it is trying its best to cling to the outgoing world order, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.

"It is becoming increasingly difficult to do, more and more difficult, if not impossible, when powerful economic giants are rising, primarily on the Eurasian continent, but also in Africa and Latin America. And this struggle for hegemony, for maintaining hegemony using sanctions, blackmail, threats, armed forces – this is a struggle for the passing era," Lavrov said at a meeting with the heads of foreign missions under the theme of conflict resolution in Ukraine.

Calling out the West's coercion tactics, the diplomat underlined that these "illegitimate methods" deployed by the US-led Western sovereign states were sowing the seeds of a new world order.

"We have already discussed this topic, when a coup d'etat is organized and it is declared that democracy has prevailed in some country, when revolutionary forces come to power somewhere in Africa, say, who want to get rid of the last shackles of neo-colonialism, then this is called a violation of the constitution, sanctions are imposed and much more," Russia's top diplomat added.

It is worth noting that Lavrov has been one of the most vocal critics of the West's sanctions on Russia, which the American-led bloc imposed to cripple the Eurasian country's economy.
However, despite Western sanctions, the Russian economy has remained resolute, thanks to strategic partners like India and China.
For example, New Delhi's trade with Moscow broke records last year, registering volumes worth $65 billion in 2023, and is on target to breach this mark in the current year.
