Vladimir Putin spoke with PM Modi over phone
19:58 05.06.2024 (Updated: 20:31 05.06.2024) Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi share warm ties, with both lauding each other at multiple public events in the recent past.
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his party-led alliance's victory in the national polls, the Kremlin said on Wednesday.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the level of strategic partnership between the two countries and agreed to continue constructive personal interaction.
The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 292 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha, thus securing a comfortable majority in the lower house of the Indian Parliament.
With this, Modi is set to join Jawaharlal Nehru as the state's only leader to take oath as Prime Minister for the third time in succession.
On Tuesday, after trends showed that the NDA was on course to a win, Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov said that Russian president would speak to the Indian leader soon.
"Mr Modi will be happy to talk to the [Russian Federation] president but only after the vote counting is over. But the winner is already known," Ushakov stated.
