Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in a pre-dawn attack in Tehran where he attended the inauguration ceremony of the newly-appointed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday.
Military experts in India were left fuming after former Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit accused New Delhi of having a hand in Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh's assassination.
Abdul Basit claims India's spy agency RAW has a "considerable presence" in Tehran, that's why, "New Delhi's role in Haniyeh's killing could not be ruled out."
However, the ex-Pakistani diplomat's remarks did not go well with the Indians.

"A typically poor Pakistani attempt at trying to create a wedge in India's balanced relationships with parties to the conflict in the Middle East. India remains a respected player, who can play an important role in seeking solutions here. That does peeve the Pak establishment," Lt. General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain said on Thursday.

"Get yourself checked earliest. You really need it," another Indian Army veteran Major General (Retd) Raju Chauhan responded to Basit in a sarcastic tone on the microblogging site.
Interestingly, the retired Pakistani ambassador's allegations come at a time when both Hamas and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have blamed Israel for orchestrating the attack on the military compound in Tehran that left Haniyeh dead.
"The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas mourns to our great Palestinian people, to the Arab and Islamic nation, and to all the free people of the world: brother, leader, martyr, Mujahid Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the movement, who was killed in a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran," the Palestinian group's statement read.
