Iran and Afghanistan agreed to collaborate on drug trafficking issues by sharing information, exchanging experiences, offering educational resources for drug prevention, and establishing joint committees, during a meeting in Kabul on Monday.
The deputy head of Iran's anti-narcotics headquarters has revealed a new agreement between Iran and Afghanistan aimed at strengthening their fight against narcotics and drug trafficking through information sharing, reports the Tehran Times on Thursday.
In a meeting with members of Taliban* interim government in Kabul, Mohammad Zarei discussed strategies for tackling drug issues, including prevention, reducing demand, and addiction treatment.

"The exchange of information regarding the fight against drug trafficking, the transfer of experience in this area, the provision of educational services for combating drugs, and the establishment of joint committees for information exchange are the most recent agreements reached with the interim Afghan government. Afghan officials have also requested these measures," Zarei mentioned.

Zarei pointed out that drug-related problems are not restricted to one region, underscoring the need for a regional and collaborative approach to information sharing to tackle the crisis effectively.
"Both countries have pledged to improve coordination to utilize their informational resources to better combat and dismantle drug trafficking operations", according to the Iranian anti-narcotics official.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate stated that while no official agreement with Iran has been established, they had previously committed to preventing all forms of drug cultivation, production, and trafficking originating from Afghanistan.

In late June, on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson announced that Iran is a leading force in the global fight against drug traffickers and those involved in the drug trade, underscoring its dedication to tackling this global issue.
