Russia Keen to Expand Technological Cooperation Under 'Make In India'

Rosoboronexport, Russia's arms exporter, has a long-standing association with India, having supplied fighter jets, military transport aircraft, air defence systems, and helicopters amongst others to the country.
Russia is looking to expand its technological cooperation under the 'Make in India' initiative wherein India seeks to gain access to critical defence technology through technological transfer before local production commences there, the state's exporter of military items, Rosoboronexport, has said.
"Today, Rosoboronexport and the Indian side are working on expanding technological cooperation under the Make in India programme. We are offering our partners large-scale projects in the aviation sector," a representative of the Rosoboronexport told Sputnik India on Monday.
Russian aircraft engine manufacturing has significant design and production capabilities, allowing the development and production of engines for aircraft and helicopters of various classes and sizes, the official added.
Russia and India are successfully implementing a large-scale joint programme for manufacturing engines for combat aviation and a high level of localisation of engines in India has been achieved, he noted.

"The accumulated experience of collaboration and the technological potential of both sides enable India and Russia to implement projects for equipping existing and future Indian-designed aircraft with powerplants," the spokesperson concluded.
