Indian MPs Brief Russian Lawmakers, Deputy FM on Operation Sindoor
A delegation of Indian lawmakers, led by Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, held talks with Russian lawmakers from both houses and Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko among others in Moscow on Friday.
India and Russia remain committed to intensify cooperation against terrorism, promote global stability and deepen their overall ties, an Indian Embassy readout said on Friday.
The readout summarised the discussions between the Indian delegation, which comprises six MPs and one diplomat, and
Russian lawmakers,
Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko and think-tanks. The Indian MPs are in Moscow from 22 to 24 May to brief the Russian authorities and stakeholders on the
Pahalgam terrorist attack and New Delhi's response to it, codenamed
Operation Sindoor.
"The delegation conveyed India's resolve to
expose and isolate those who employ terrorism as an instrument of state policy and reaffirmed the importance of international solidarity in this regard," the Indian readout stated.
During the meeting between Indian MPs and Deputy Foreign Minister Rudenko, both sides agreed on the need to bolster counter-terror cooperation and the "need to eliminate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations", it said.
The Indian MPs and Rudenko held extensive discussions on bilateral, regional, and global developments, with emphasis on the "shared commitment to a multipolar and international order", it said.
The Indian side reiterated its policy of "zero-tolerance against terrorism", also stressing that India won't tolerate any "nuclear blackmail".
During the day, the Indian delegation also held extensive deliberations with Andrey Denisov, First Deputy Chair of the Committee on International Affairs of the Federation Council, and other Russian senators.
"The dialogue focused on enhancing legislative convergence in the global fight against terrorism. The Indian side drew attention to Operation Sindoor as a response in the country's fight against terrorism," the Indian statement read.
The Indian delegation also met Leonid Slutsky, who heads the Committee on International Affairs of the State Duma and other Duma lawmakers.
The Russian and Indian lawmakers reaffirmed the "time-tested nature" of Russia-India ties, based on mutual trust, the Indian Embassy said.
"The discussions covered a wide range of issues including global security architecture, emerging geopolitical alignments, and multilateral cooperation," it said.
The Indian delegation emphasised the need for "collective action against terrorism". The Indian MPs also underlined the importance of "credible international mechanisms to deny safe havens, financing, and political justification to terrorist entities", the Embassy said.
The Indian delegation is one among seven delegations deputed by New Delhi to brief 33 foreign governments and various stakeholders on the
Pahalgam terrorist attack and India's response to it, which resulted in Indian Air Force (IAF) launching aerial strikes on nine terrorist training camps and hideouts on 7 May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that these strikes, as part of Operation Sindoor, left over 100 "dreaded terrorists" dead.
The countries being visited by the Indian MPs are permanent and rotating non-permanent members of the UN Security Council (UNSC).
