India Announces Rules For Tri-Services Unified Command
In a significant move to bolster synergy among the tri-services—the Indian Air Force (IAF), Indian Navy, and Indian Army —the Narendra Modi-led government announced rules for the Unified Command on Wednesday.
Notified under the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control & Discipline) Act 2023, the rules aim to enable greater jointness and improve command efficiency within the Armed Forces.
"This significant step aims to bolster effective command, control, and efficient functioning of Inter-Services Organisations (ISOs), thereby strengthening jointness among the Armed Forces," the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a statement.
Notably, the development comes in the aftermath of the military conflict between India and Pakistan earlier this month, where the Indian Defence Forces showcased exemplary cohesion among themselves.
The role of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Army (IA) in particular came in for praise from all quarters, especially for their robust collaboration in the area of air defence.
Both the Indian Army and the IAF combined to down hundreds of Pakistani drones and missiles during the
four days of hostilities from May 7 to 10 between the two nuclear-armed nations.
"Over 600 drones were neutralised- a feat made possible by the swift deployment and resolute response of the Indian Army's AD systems," a defence source told Sputnik India.
