MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Israel's killing of family members of Iranian scientists is a serious violation of international law, since they must be protected as civilians, Thameen Al-Kheetan, a spokesperson for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) told Sputnik on Tuesday.
"Civilians are defined as individuals who are not members of the armed forces, and targeting them is a serious violation of international humanitarian law ... We understand that a number of family members of the scientists were also killed in these attacks. Family members of the scientists are entitled to the same protection as any other civilian," Al-Kheetan said.
