18:50 03.07.2025 (Updated: 19:44 03.07.2025) In a landmark address to the Parliament of Ghana, PM Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s deep-rooted partnership with Ghana & the African continent, and called for stronger collaboration, democratic solidarity, and a united voice for the Global South.
Speaking to
Ghana’s lawmakers,
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that there is an urgent need for
inclusive reforms in global governance to better reflect the voices of emerging nations.
“The institutions created in the last century are struggling to respond. Progress cannot come without giving voice to the Global South,” he said.
He highlighted India’s efforts to uplift emerging economies during its
G20 presidency, underscoring a historic milestone:
“We are proud that the African Union became a permanent member of the G20 during our presidency. We worked with the vision: One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
Calling Ghana “a beacon of inspiration for Africa,” PM Modi praised its resilience and democratic values and its ability of facing challenges with dignity and grace.
He acknowledged Ghana’s potential to lead in IT and innovation, highlighting India’s position as a global tech hub and expressing optimism about their shared future of growth and progress.
Reaffirming India’s long-standing partnership with Africa, PM Modi expressed support for the African Union’s Agenda 2063, a blueprint for sustainable and inclusive continental growth.
“The histories of India and Ghana bear the scars of colonial rule, but our spirits have always remained free and fearless.”
He expressed heartfelt appreciation for being awarded Ghana’s national honour by President John Mahama:
“Receiving your national award from my dear friend and President of Ghana, John Mahama, is an honour. I will always cherish that night. I express my gratitude on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians.”
Paying tribute to Ghana’s founding father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, PM Modi invoked his enduring vision of unity:
“‘The forces that unite us are greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart,’” he quoted Nkrumah, emphasising that these words continue to guide India-Ghana shared journey.
