The S-400 is trending big time in India, as the country's top defence leadership, including Indian Air Force (IAF) chief AP Singh, has praised the widely acclaimed Russian air defence system for its stellar perfomance during the country's military campaign — Operation Sindroor — in May this year. While former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's biographer, Minhaz Merchant, praised the S-400 for forming an "impenetrable shield" over India's skies, ex-aviator Vijainder K. Thakur, a military commentator, stressed that the "IAF plans deploy S-400 squadrons in several locations across the country".Notably, India already operates three squadrons of the S-400, with the remaining two units from the 2018 deal, worth more than $5 billion, expected to be delivered by 2027.Earlier this year, the IAF chief described the S-400 as a "game-changer" during Operation Sindoor, the nation's counter-terror campaign against terrorists camps located in Pakistan.According to the top IAF official, the S-400 achieved a kill at a range of over 300 km inside Pakistani territory, knocking out a high-value aircraft from an unprecedented range — the farthest kill ever recorded in military history.

S-400 Trends in India as Top Military Brass Hail ‘Game-Changing’ Air Defence System
The S-400 anti-aircraft missile system is believed to be one of the most advanced air defence platforms, having the ability to engage 36 threats simultaneously.
Thakur, a military commentator, stressed that the "IAF plans deploy S-400 squadrons in several locations across the country".
Notably, India already operates three squadrons of the S-400, with the remaining two units from
the 2018 deal, worth more than $5 billion, expected to be delivered by 2027.
Earlier this year, the IAF chief described the S-400 as a "game-changer" during Operation Sindoor, the nation's counter-terror campaign against terrorists camps located in Pakistan.
"Long range-SAM (LR-SAM) that we had bought, S-400, they turned out to be a game changer in this. Their long-range radars and missile systems could threaten the enemy aircraft well inside their own territory. So, we were able to do something such that they could not operate even in their own territory. Their range was more than the range of their weapons, so they could never even come up to the weapon release range without being threatened and those who came had to face damage. So, this was a game-changer," Singh said last month.
According to the top IAF official, the S-400 achieved a kill at a range of over 300 km inside Pakistani territory, knocking out a high-value aircraft from an unprecedented range — the farthest kill ever recorded in military history.
"The longest kill we achieved was of more than 300 km inside their territory. This is actually the largest ever recorded surface-to-air kill that we can talk about," he highlighted during the annual Air Force Day press conference last week.
