BrahMos Heading Hypersonic: CEO Reveals Next-Gen Push
BrahMos, the world's fastest supersonic missile, proved its mettle in the recent conflicts.
BrahMos Aerospace, the company behind the widely acclaimed BrahMos missile, is working on a hypersonic version of the projectile, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD), Dr Jaiteerth Raghavendra Joshi, has said.
In addition to the hypersonic variant of the BrahMos, Joshi confirmed that a sleeker version of the missile to equip India's homegrown fighter, the LCA Tejas, was also in the pipeline.
"(Currently) we are firing from the land, ship and air versions, and to accommodate it, we want to develop a new generation missile, a sleeker version that can be integrated with the light combat aircraft. That is a major thing we are doing. We are reducing the diameter so that we can fire it from the submarine. These are the new developments and we are also working on hypersonic versions," he said at the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025.
During the country's counter-terror operation launched to avenge the Pahalgam terrorist attack of April 2025, BrahMos has emerged as the crown jewel of India's missile arsenal, highlighted by its superlative performance during Operation Sindoor earlier this year.
