India is the largest importer of seaborne Russian crude oil, meeting at least a third of its energy requirements from its long-time, trusted strategic partner.
India's imports of oil from Russia are on course to hit a six-month high in December as New Delhi continues to ignore American sanctions on the Eurasian state's crude producers, Rosneft and Lukoil.
According to data compiled by real-time global commodity intelligence and analytics firm Kpler, arrivals of Russian crude to India in December are expected to climb to 1.85 million barrels per day (mbd), a jump of 0.2 mbd from the previous month, when shipments were recorded at 1.83 mbd.
With Russian oil imports in December witnessing a slight growth, it will be the third consecutive month that the black gold will see an uptick in its supplies to India from Russia.
For the record, India imported 1.48 mbd of crude from Russia in October, which saw a significant spike in November to rise to 1.83 mbd.
Interestingly, India's December imports from Russia stand at 1.85 mbd as of now, making them the highest since June 2025, when the South Asian country acquired 2.10 million barrels per day from Moscow.
