S-400 Air Shield Set for First Republic Parade Appearance
India currently operates three units of the S-400 air defence system, which the country acquired as part of a $5.43 billion contract for five regiments from Russia in 2018.
India's S-400 air defence system, which proved to be a "game-changer" during Operation Sindoor against Pakistan last year, is set to make its debut at the Republic Day parade this year as part of the tableau to be showcased by the Department of Military Affairs.
"The S-400 air defence system, which shot down a Pakistan's air forces asset at the longest range in the world, would be showcased on the tableau of the Department of Military Affairs for the first time," Air Commodore Manish Sabharwal said during a media briefing in New Delhi on Friday.
At the Republic Day 2026 parade, the tableau named
"Tri-Services Tableau - Operation Sindoor", will highlight the
successful joint operations India's armed forces undertook during the operation campaign against Pakistan in May 2025.
Besides the S-400, the BrahMos proved its lethality in the brief conflict, inflicting heavy damage to Pakistan's military infrastructure after the
Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted air strikes on it's multiple air bases.
The S-400 in particular has earned immense praise from the top echelons of India's military leadership, with the IAF chief
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh declaring that the Russian-acquired platform turned out to be a game-changer.
"Long range-SAM (LR-SAM) that we had bought, S-400, they turned out to be a game changer in this. Their long-range radars and missile systems could threaten the enemy aircraft well inside their own territory," Singh said last year.
