Russia, China, Iran Stressed Importance of Political Solution to Iran Issue
The envoys of Russia, China, and Iran in Vienna, at a meeting with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, noted the importance of a political and diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said.
The Izvestia newspaper wrote that the permanent representatives of Russia, China, and Iran in Vienna met with Grossi on February 18.
"Particular emphasis was placed on the need for a purely political and diplomatic resolution of all existing problems in this context. This type of cooperation between the diplomatic missions of the three countries will continue here," Ulyanov told the newspaper.
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that
US President Donald Trump was considering a limited initial strike on Iranian military and government facilities to force Iran to sign a nuclear deal. Trump himself, when asked on Friday whether he planned to launch a limited strike against Iran, said that he was considering the possibility.
Tehran and Washington held talks on the Iranian nuclear issue on Tuesday at the Omani diplomatic mission in Geneva. The Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and the US delegation by US special envoy Steve Witkoff.
Araqchi called the talks constructive and serious. He said the parties had developed key principles to guide their work on a further deal. The Iranian and US delegations will return to their capitals to work on the texts of a possible agreement, after which the parties will exchange texts and set a date for a third round of talks.
