India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is visiting Moscow to participate in the International Security Conference (ISF) as well as hold meetings with his counterparts from other nations.
The India-Russia relationship has a very special role in the current geopolitical climate, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval told Sergei Shoigu, the Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, at their bilateral meeting on the margins of the International Security Conference (ISF) in Moscow.
“You said that the world was passing through a very tumultuous situation. There is a certain unpredictability. There are uncertainties. And in an environment like this, our old strategic and privileged partnership has got a very special role,” India’s top security official said.
An Indian Embassy readout of the meeting said Doval and Shoigu reviewed ongoing cooperation in defence, security, energy and economic ties.
It added that the top security officials also exchanged views on the upcoming BRICS NSAs Meeting in New Delhi.
In the meeting, Doval noted that India was as committed as Russia in fighting terrorism with all their might, while recalling the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack last April.
Further, the NSA noted that the 25th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGEC-TEC) in New Delhi, co-chaired by External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, had thrown up “new things” in bilateral ties.
Earlier, Doval addressed the first International Security Forum (ISF) and the 14th Meeting of High Representatives for Security Matters in Moscow.
Doval urged the forum participants to “make clear choices” as to whether they supported “sponsors of terrorism” or would like to counter them with “decisive choices”.
He stated that there couldn’t be any double standards on the issue of terrorism.
Doval also touched upon the West Asia conflict in his speech, reiterating Delhi’s stance on the need for ensuring safe and uninterrupted passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
The NSA also called for urgent reforms of global governance to ensure greater representation of Global South nations.
He said that power was no longer concentrated in the few hands.
“Emerging countries are rising and rising with resolve and determination. They are rising in their economic capabilities, military strengths, demographic strengths, and a multipolar world is emerging in which the aspirational states require and want equal participation of all the powers and countries of the Global South. And that is the only way that can ensure a very secure and stable world,” underscored Doval.
