14:23 17.06.2026 (Updated: 14:25 17.06.2026) Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, upon arriving in the Russian city of Kazan for the Russia-ASEAN anniversary summit, held a meeting with Rustam Minnikhanov, head of the Republic of Tatarstan, to discuss expanded cooperation in the oil and gas sector and other areas.
"We see broad opportunities for cooperation in the oil and gas industry, including refining, petrochemicals, and other downstream activities," Anwar wrote on X.
The Malaysian prime minister said that they discussed prospects for cooperation in trade, investment, education, tourism, the halal industry, technology, and personnel training, with particular attention paid to the energy sector. He added that Tatarstan is one of Russia's largest oil-producing regions.
The two also discussed the role of the KazanForum in strengthening business ties and developing cooperation in innovation, the digital economy, and strategic investment.
