The BrahMos missile, widely regarded as the fastest supersonic weapon on the planet, has been previously exported to the Philippines.
BrahMos Aerospace is on the verge of finalising a major export deal with Vietnam, with negotiations with the Southeast Asian nation reaching its last leg, the company's chief Jaiteerth Joshi said on Thursday.

"Export negotiations with Vietnam are in the final stages, with only a few clearances remaining before the deal is finalized. We are also in talks with several other countries in both the Eastern and Western regions. Once government approval is received, we will make an official announcement," Joshi told reporters.

His comments came in Nagpur after he flagged off the 100th domestically produced booster for the BrahMos missile programme at a commemorative event.
Joshi also revealed that lighter designs of the BrahMos missile, including the BrahMos-NG variant, were in the pipeline.
"Future developments include work on BrahMos-NG and extended-range variants, with research also focused on lighter designs using composite materials. Final specifications will be determined after design validation and simulation studies are completed," he added.
Crediting Operation Sindoor, India's counter-terror campaign against Pakistan last year, for providing a live combat demonstration of the BrahMos missile, Joshi said that it enhanced the system's credibility.
"BrahMos has evolved into one of its kind, a supersonic system that has been manufactured and tested successfully with the support of DRDO. A live test was conducted during Operation Sindoor. This is the first of its kind, where we could test the missile on our adversary," Joshi explained.

Russia Keen To Induct BrahMos Missile

Russia, the 49% stakeholder in the BrahMos project, has shown interest in inducting the missile into its armed forces, Joshi stated.

Russia is keen to induct the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, and discussions are underway on increasing production to meet future requirements, Joshi said.

"My joint managing director has committed that government of Russia is keen on taking, but they have their own established industry partners. However, they want to increase the requirement as per the present scenario. What the situation is, they are there, so they are likely to take. We are in talks with them," he noted.

Joshi said India would collaborate closely with Russia to augment its existing manufacturing capabilities, with supplies and support being provided from India as needed.
