Earlier this week, several US lawmakers expressed concern over proposed amendments to India's Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).They argued that the changes could have a significant impact on civil society organisations and groups that rely on foreign funding.Members of both the Republican and Democratic parties questioned provisions in the proposed legislation, underscoring that it could restrict access to foreign funds.Expand government control over the assets of organisations whose FCRA registrations are suspended, cancelled, or not renewed.Rodrigues rejected those concerns, saying US lawmakers should refrain from interfering in India's domestic affairs. He argued that India has the sovereign right to regulate foreign funding within its borders and defended the proposed amendments as necessary safeguards.

Concerns Of US Lawmakers On India's New Foreign Funding Law Overreach: BJP Politician
Questions raised by US lawmakers over India's proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) amount to an overreach, BJP politician Savio Rodrigues told Sputnik India.
Earlier this week, several US lawmakers expressed concern over proposed amendments to India's Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
They argued that the changes could have a significant impact on civil society organisations and groups that rely on foreign funding.
Members of both the Republican and Democratic parties questioned provisions in the proposed legislation, underscoring that it could restrict access to foreign funds.
Expand government control over the assets of organisations whose FCRA registrations are suspended, cancelled, or not renewed.
Rodrigues rejected those concerns, saying US lawmakers should refrain from interfering in India's domestic affairs.
"Their concern would be better directed toward the erosion of religious values within their own society," he said.
He argued that India has the sovereign right to regulate foreign funding within its borders and defended the proposed amendments as necessary safeguards.
