The vessel is designed to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) year-round along the Northern Sea Route, including its eastern sector, which is known for some of the harshest ice conditions in the Arctic.Equipped with an Arc7 ice-class hull, an optimized hull design and an advanced propulsion system, the tanker can navigate independently through ice up to 2.1 meters thick while maintaining high maneuverability.Russian officials described the completion of the vessel as an important milestone, marking the transition to serial production of a new generation of Arctic transport ships. The fleet is expected to play a key role in supporting year-round navigation along the Northern Sea Route, increasing exports from the Arctic and strengthening Russia's transport sovereignty. The vessel will sail under the Russian flag and is fully crewed by Russian seafarers. The naming ceremony in Bolshoy Kamen was attended by senior officials from Sovcomflot, VEB.RF, Rosneft, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and members of the ship's crew.In a message to participants, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said the new high-tech LNG carriers are among the most effective vessels for operating in the harsh conditions of the Arctic and will help advance the development of Russia's Northern Sea Route.

Russia Commissions New Arctic LNG Carrier Built for Year-Round Northern Sea Route Operations
Russia has officially named and commissioned the "Konstantin Posyet", a new Arc7-class Arctic LNG carrier built at the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex in Primorsky Krai for shipping company Sovcomflot.
The vessel is designed to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) year-round along the Northern Sea Route, including its eastern sector, which is known for some of the harshest ice conditions in the Arctic.
Equipped with an Arc7 ice-class hull, an optimized hull design and an advanced propulsion system, the tanker can navigate independently through ice up to 2.1 meters thick while maintaining high maneuverability.
Russian officials described the completion of the vessel as an important milestone, marking the transition to serial production of a new generation of Arctic transport ships. The fleet is expected to play a key role in supporting year-round navigation along the Northern Sea Route, increasing exports from the Arctic and strengthening Russia's transport sovereignty.
The vessel will sail under the Russian flag and is fully crewed by Russian seafarers.
The naming ceremony in Bolshoy Kamen was attended by senior officials from Sovcomflot, VEB.RF, Rosneft, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and members of the ship's crew.
In a message to participants, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said the new high-tech LNG carriers are among the most effective vessels for operating in the harsh conditions of the Arctic and will help advance the development of Russia's Northern Sea Route.
