Russia and Rwanda have signed a roadmap for the development of a project on a small modular nuclear power plant (NPP) reactor project, Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom said on Tuesday.
Rosatom and its colleagues from Rwanda held the first meeting of the joint coordinating committee for cooperation in the field of atomic energy use in Moscow, the Russian corporation said in a statement.
"Following the meeting, the parties signed a roadmap for the development of the small modular reactor project," the statement said.
Rosatom presented a wide range of Russian-designed nuclear power plants during the second African Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit in Rwanda.
"On the sidelines of the summit, representatives of Russia and Rwanda discussed further steps to synchronise work on the low-power nuclear power plant and the Center for Nuclear Science and Technology projects," the corporation's statement read, adding that the sides have agreed on the construction of a NPP.
Rosatom has agreed to build a nuclear power plant (NPP) with Rwanda in May, according to CEO Alexey Likhachev.
"We have agreed on the construction of nuclear power plants with Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Rwanda," Likhachev said at the congress of the Russian Union of Machine Builders.
