India was able to weather the energy crisis linked to a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz thanks to its friendships with various countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.

"During this period of war [between the US and Israel and Iran], India’s friendship with other countries proved extremely valuable. Before the crisis began, India imported fuel and energy from only 25–26 countries… During the war itself, India began importing fuel from more than 40 countries," Modi said at an event in Balotra, Rajasthan.

The Prime Minister added that the opposition in the country had attempted to spread rumours and fear during the crisis, but India managed to navigate it effectively.
Iran and the US reportedly signed a memorandum remotely on the night of 18 June, which envisages an end to the military conflict that began on 28 February. The memorandum also sets out timelines for when the US will lift its maritime blockade and Iran will restore navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
