Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Indonesia from 6-8 July as part of a three-nation visit covering Australia and New Zealand as well.
India and Indonesia are expected to further strengthen ties in the fields of defence and critical minerals during the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Tuesday morning, officials said.

In defence, the Indonesian defence ministry announced in March that it had agreed to procure BrahMos missiles from India. Officials said the BrahMos deal signified a "deeper defence-industrial cooperation" between the two nations.

Defence and security cooperation between the two countries has also witnessed increased momentum in recent years through high-level visits and regular bilateral and multilateral exercises, officials said.

Last week, an Indonesian Liaison Officer was posted at the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), located on the outskirts of Delhi, to further strengthen the maritime domain awareness (MDA) of both the nations.
In addition, India will also be earmarking slots for Indonesian cadets and officers in the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) to enhance defence capacity building, officials said.
Significantly, both the nations adopted the 'Shared Vision of India-Indonesia Maritime Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific' during PM Modi's visit to Jakarta in 2018, when ties were elevated to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Ahead of his departure to Jakarta on Monday morning, PM Modi said the visit to the eastern and Southern Indian Ocean Region would strengthen India's Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision and Delhi's Indo-Pacific outlook.
In the area of critical minerals, Indonesia ranks as one of the global leaders. The Southeast Asian nation has around 21% of the global nickel reserves and is also among the top producers of copper, bauxite, and tin.
This visit will strengthen cooperation in this area, officials said.
Modi's visit also has a strong focus on further enhancing developmental cooperation as well as continuing to share India's expertise in digital public infrastructure (DPI), healthcare and agriculture.
Greater connectivity between UPI and Indonesia’s QRIS digital payment ecosystems, which is currently being worked upon, will make travel, tourism, trade and business interactions between our people simpler, faster and more seamless, officials said.
India is also working on the G-2-G supply of high-quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical products under the flagship Jan Aushadhi scheme to support Indonesia's "Red and White Village Cooperatives" programme.
Further, India is an active partner in bolstering Indonesia's food security. In recent years, New Delhi supplied 100 tonnes of high-quality DWR 162 wheat seeds as part of a broader engagement in developing sustainable agricultural cooperation with its Global South partners.
