India's BRICS Chairmanship to Advance Anti-Corruption Efforts: Russian MFA
The results achieved during India's BRICS chairmanship in 2026 will strengthen cooperation among member states in combating corruption, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
On August 4-5, the BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group meeting was held in the Indian city of Hyderabad under India's chairmanship, with a Russian delegation of experts from the Foreign Ministry and the Prosecutor General's Office participating.
"Russia is convinced that the results achieved during India's BRICS chairmanship will give an additional qualitative boost to the interaction of the association's members in combating corruption and highlight BRICS' contribution to relevant global efforts," the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting discussed practical aspects of cooperation between the competent authorities of member states in combating
corruption and improving the effectiveness of mutual legal assistance, the statement said.
"Anti-corruption cooperation within BRICS is built exclusively on the basis of sovereign equality, mutual respect, consensus, respect for national legislation, and for the well-being and prosperity of the states and peoples of the association," the statement said.
The sides emphasized the importance of collective measures to strengthen the anti-corruption capacity of relevant government agencies, the ministry said.
The BRICS summit will be held on September 12-13 in New Delhi, marking the 18th summit of the association. India is chairing BRICS this year.
