India and China discussed the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), their de facto border, with New Delhi reiterating that "maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas" was "essential for the overall development of bilateral relations", the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.Peace at the Sino-India border appears to have stabilised after both countries decided to pull back thousands of troops in October 2024, following a five-year military stand-off that began in May 2020 and subsequently resulted in casualties on both sides after troops clashed in the Galwan valley.Since then, the two Asian giants have held multiple rounds of consultations, focusing on resolving border issues at the Corps Commander-level rather than allowing them to spiral into a matter of conflict.

India and China discussed the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), their de facto border, with New Delhi reiterating that "maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas" was "essential for the overall development of bilateral relations", the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.
"Both sides agreed to continue to use existing diplomatic and military channels, including the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India‑China Border Affairs (WMCC), local commander‑level meetings and other agreed mechanisms, to resolve outstanding issues and avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC)," the MEA's statement read.
"Two sides held detailed exchanges on issues related to boundary delimitation, border management, mechanism‑building and trans‑border cooperation," the statement added.
