The United States should lift sanctions and stop threatening Iran if it truly seeks to resume dialogue, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said.
"We are still ready for dialogue, but the Americans should first stop their threats and lift sanctions on Iran, and only then can we launch a dialogue. If the US truly seeks to negotiate and reach an agreement, then its behavior is illogical and completely contradictory to its own statements," Pezeshkian was quoted by his office as saying at a meeting with Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir.
The Iranian people do not trust the US, expecting it to resume hostilities at any moment, the president said. If Washington seeks negotiations with Iran, it should prove its sincerity, he added.
On February 28, the US and Israel began striking targets in Iran, prompting retaliation from Iran. In mid-June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum to cease hostilities, but shortly thereafter exchanged strikes again. At present, the conflict remains unresolved, but the parties are not engaged in active combat, with the US relying on economic pressure.
