India's Integrated Defense Headquarters, comprising the country's tri-services, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), with both parties agreeing to a technical collaboration in the defense sector.

A statement released by India's Ministry of Defense (MoD) mentioned that the MoU would focus on "technical collaboration and joint research and development in the field of Defence Technology."

"The MoU between the two parties aims to provide an umbrella framework for initiating collaborative interaction between CSIR Labs, the Integrated Defense Headquarters and Armed Forces, namely Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force, for enhancing scientific understanding of technologies related to defense and undertaking joint research and development in dual-use technologies," the MoD added.

The development is significant, given the Indian government's focus to become a global manufacturing hub of world-class military equipment.

From warplanes to aircraft carriers to helicopters to artillery guns to submarines, the Indian government is aiming to make almost every major weapons platform in the country as it is targeting self-reliance in the defense sector.

The thrust on self-reliance has become much more evident due to Russia's success in the Ukraine conflict with the Eurasian nation's robust defense industry continuing to fulfill the needs of its armed forces for a prolonged period amid the ongoing special military operation against the Kiev regime.
