What Are Ramifications of US & Allies' Strikes Against Houthis?

The US and UK, along with allied military forces, conducted airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen’s capital Sanaa in response to the militants' ongoing attacks on ships in the Red Sea since November.

US and coalition forces targeted over 60 sites across 16 Houthi locations in northern Yemen on Thursday and Friday. The targeted locations encompassed the capital city of Sanaa, the Houthi Red Sea port of Hudaydah in the Dhamar governorate, and the northwestern Houthi stronghold of Saada.
The bombing comes as, since October 7, Israel, with the backing of the US, launched attacks on Gaza, Palestine, and subsequently Lebanon. This has resulted in the loss of thousands of lives, displacement, and injuries.
Now, a new chapter has begun as the US and its allies initiate an attack on Sanaa, Yemen's capital. This has led to another outbreak of war, causing further devastation and suffering.
In this regard, Sputnik India approached Muhammad Taimur Fahad Khan, a foreign policy and political analyst, to find out his take on the events.

“The attacks by the US and its allies on the Houthis in Yemen are a significant escalation. The ramifications of this attack on regional security are multifaceted. These strikes could further inflame tensions in an already volatile region as the Houthis have vowed to respond to these attacks," he said.

Further, he added, "This will potentially lead to an escalation of conflict in Yemen and the broader Middle East. Additionally, Iran's involvement in the region, and its opposition to the US and its allies, adds another layer of complexity to the situation."

International Concern About Another Troubling Precedent

The attack on Thursday night poses a significant threat, not only to the Middle East but also to the global community, he argued.
This has the potential to create widespread turmoil and instability, impacting regions far beyond the immediate area of conflict.
Sputnik India also interviewed Dr. Tughral Yamin, an expert at the Institute of Policy Studies in Islamabad.

He told Sputnik: "The attack of the US and its allies on Yemen and Houthis would create more escalation and conflict not in the region but all over the world. As we are already confronting a conflict in Gaza, this attack at this time will lead to another global socio-political turmoil."

He further added, "Pakistan would not take any one side, because we are against such sort of conflicts and escalation. We just want global peace and order."
Meanwhile, for Fahad Khan, "Such military action, without the endorsement of international bodies like the UN is and should be seen as a violation of international law. The region is already embroiled in a raging conflict and has been experiencing protracted instability for quite some time now, and such military actions will further exacerbate the situation which has the potential of spreading beyond the Middle East region.
"Moreover, such a blatant disregard for international law and military action in far-flung regions of the world by US and its allies sets a bad example for the rest of the world and adds to the already prevailing volatile situation in international affairs."

Pakistan's Stance on Middle East: Prioritizing Sovereignty and Peace

For this purpose, Sputnik News approached one of the Geo-political experts and analysts, Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram, for his take about it; he told:

" Pakistan's recent decision to abstain from participating in the military operations led by the United States and its allies in the Middle East underscores its steadfast commitment to territorial integrity, sovereignty, and an independent foreign policy. Pakistan has consistently prioritized de-escalation in the region and advocated for dialogue and diplomatic solutions, in contrast to what it views as the United States' interventionist and offensive foreign policy in the Middle East, including its actions in Gaza and Yemen."

Moreover he remarked, " Pakistan remains committed to advocating for the rights of oppressed Palestinians and promoting a ceasefire in Gaza. As a proponent of peace, Pakistan actively works to diffuse tensions and foster stability in the region."
"It emphasizes dialogue over military actions and strives for a regional environment conducive to peace and stability. Pakistan's recent decision reflects a commitment to an independent foreign policy that prioritizes peaceful resolution and regional stability, setting the stage for a nuanced approach to the complex dynamics of the Middle East," Pakistani Expert said.
