Pakistan's special representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, and the Taliban** Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amir Khan Muttaqi, have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and work together to foster peace in the region.
"Agreed to work together to further strengthen bilateral cooperation as well as for peace and progress in the region," Sadiq posted on social media on Tuesday.
Sadiq was reappointed as Pakistan's special representative to Afghanistan earlier this month. He served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Kabul from December 2008 till April 2014.
The diplomat landed in Kabul on Monday to restore warmth in relations between the two former allies. This visit, marking the first visit by a high-profile Pakistani official in months, follows the country's repeated warnings to the Taliban to act against TTP fighters allegedly residing in Afghanistan and launching attacks on Pakistan's security forces and establishments.
However, the Taliban has denied the presence of TTP in Afghanistan.
