Daesh* Khorasan has been linked to a series of deadly terror attacks in Afghanistan, including the killing of a provincial governor in March this year.
In a major blow to Afghanistan's ruling Taliban**, the deputy governor of the war-torn nation's northern Badakhshan province, Mawlawi Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi, died in a car bomb blast on Tuesday, an official said.

Ahmadi lost his life when a vehicle laden with explosives targeted his car in Faizabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan. During the attack, the driver of his car was also killed.

A spokesperson for the province confirmed the development.

No Recent Taliban Infiltration Into Kashmir: Indian Army

"Nissar Ahmad Ahmadi, with his driver, has been killed and six civilians were injured," the head of the information office of Badakhshan province, Mahzudeen Ahmadi, informed media persons after the attack.

While no one has yet taken responsibility for the attack, the car bomb blast is suspected to have been carried out by Daesh's local arm, which has previously been accused of launching multiple strikes on Taliban forces and civilians in Afghanistan.
However, this isn't the first time the Taliban has lost a high-ranking official in a terrorist incident in 2023.
In March, the governor of Balkh province, Mawlawi Mohammad Dawood Muzamil, died after a bomb planted in his office exploded, killing the Taliban official on the spot.

Taliban chief spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that the governor was "martyred in an explosion by the enemies of Islam".

He remains the senior-most Taliban official to die in a terrorist strike since the hardline Islamist group returned to govern Afghanistan in 2021.

**The Taliban is under UN sanctions over terrorist activities.
