Political parties have been engaged in a debate over the proposed Uniform Civil Code ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong pitch for its implementation during his virtual address to BJP workers last week.
The Indian government is likely to use the draft of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand state as the template for new upcoming federal legislation, media reports quoting sources said on Tuesday.
The reports came after Uttarakhand state chief Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and Chairwoman of Uttarakhand UCC Drafting Committee Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai in the national capital on Monday.

Indian Muslim Board Holds Late-Night Meeting on Uniform Civil Code
However, hours after Modi made the call to introduce the UCC, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) held an emergency meeting where the legal aspects of the proposed law were discussed.
The Muslim body decided to oppose the UCC and agreed on presenting its views more strongly in front of the Law Commission. The commission has opened a consultation period of 30 days for “views and ideas” from the public and “recognized” religious organizations.
