Earlier this month, Iran joined the world's largest regional group during India's presidency of the organisation, becoming the ninth member of the SCO.
Iranians will soon experience the benefits of Tehran's Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) membership, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian of Iran said according to IRNA, the country's state media outlet.
Iran's top diplomat elaborated that Tehran had been trying to become a full SCO member for years, but efforts during previous governments failed to bear fruit.

"A lot of efforts were made both in the [current] administration and in the parliament so that we could approve the documents on time, which is unique in the history of the Islamic Revolution," he stated.

He added that it was due to the efforts of the President Ebrahim Raisi-led administration that Tehran was able to secure Iran's SCO membership, which would have otherwise taken at least five years.
"We will see the results of this membership on the ground and on people's tables," the Iranian Foreign Minister noted.
With Iran being the latest member of SCO, the intergovernmental sociopolitical security organization has now expanded to include nine full members. Other than the Middle Eastern country, other sovereign states that are included in the club are China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
An Indian geopolitical expert, who spoke to Sputnik after the conclusion of the SCO summit hosted by India virtually this month, underlined that the Eurasian bloc has grown in stature because the United Nations (UN) has become politicized.
"The world is moving toward multilateralism. And we find that the UN, which is the largest grouping of countries, is becoming ineffective and highly politicized by the West," Major General (Retd) Shashi Bhushan Asthana, the director of the New-Delhi based think tank United Service Institution of India said in an interview.
"Therefore, all over the world, the other groupings are coming up and taking a major load off the UN, and in that context, [the] SCO has become an important forum with 40 percent of the global population and 20 percent of the world's GDP," he concluded.
