In June, Iran applied for BRICS membership, a grouping representing over 40 percent of the Earth's population and nearly 26 percent of the world's economy.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari on Tuesday said that Tehran was looking forward to expanding ties with the group of BRICS countries as the Gulf nation viewed the influential economic bloc as a "meaningful partner".

BRICS, an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is emerging as a major power center in global geopolitics amid growing tensions over the West's proxy war against Moscow in Ukraine.

The Iranian minister added that the collective capacity and experience of BRICS nations could be of great help to Tehran, considering all these had expertise in different domains.

Iran's BRICS Membership Under Discussion

Safari's remarks come at a time when Russia, one of the founding members of the BRICS, has openly voiced its support for expanding the grouping.
Earlier this year, Moscow confirmed that both Iran and Argentina have shown interest in joining BRICS.
Subsequently, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also spoke about the development, stating that the move would lead to value addition for both sides.
The next BRICS summit is scheduled to take place in South Africa later this month, where the subject of Iran's membership will possibly be taken up.
Other nations who have evinced interest in being a part of the bloc are the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Egypt, and Algeria.
