Pakistan In August Witnesses 83 Percent Surge In Terrorist Incidents
Pakistan witnessed an alarming wave of terror attacks in recent months, which Islamabad has largely blamed on militants of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP*).
Pakistan has reported an
83 percent increase in terror incidents with a total of 99 militant attacks taking place in August in the Islamic country, according to data compiled by the
Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
This is a drastic jump from the 54 attacks in July and the PICSS says that this is the highest number of terror attacks registered in Pakistan over a 30-day period since November 2014.
The militant incidents in August 2023 led to the deaths of 112 people and left 87 injured.
The noticeable escalation in terror activities in Pakistan comes at a time when the South Asian country is preparing for national polls which are scheduled for October.
For months, Pakistan's top leadership, including former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has accused the TTP of fomenting trouble in the neighboring country.
Additionally, Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who served as Foreign Minister in the former's cabinet alleged that the TTP was being supported by the Afghan Taliban** in Kabul.
Bilawal even warned Kabul of launching a military campaign to dismantle TTP's hideouts in the war-torn nation.
The Taliban, however, has denied these claims, urging Pakistan to secure its borders and not blame Kabul for the
rise in militant attacks.
