Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep concerns about the ongoing anti-India activities conducted by extremist elements in Canada during his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G-20 Leaders' Summit.
Canada has indefinitely postponed its trade mission to India amid rising tensions between the two countries over Khalistani activities, according to media reports.

Media sources report, quoting Shanti Cosentino, a spokesperson for Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng: “At this time, we are postponing the upcoming trade mission to India.” An exact reason behind postponing the trade mission has not been given by the spokesperson.

The five-day trade mission led by Canadian minister Mary Ng was scheduled to begin on October 9.

Earlier, India had said that there will be no trade talks with Canada while subversive activities continue.

The announcement of the trade mission between the two countries took place during Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal's visit to Canada in May of this year. Piyush Goyal was in Canada for a bilateral visit in May this year.
The recent development follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's expressed concerns about the rising Khalistani activities in Canada during his bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which took place on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit in Delhi on 9-10 September.

As per the federal Ministry of External Affairs, Modi told Trudeau that “extremist elements are "promoting secessionism and inciting violence" against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the Indian community in Canada and their places of worship.”

“The nexus of such forces with organised crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should be a concern for Canada as well. It is essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats,” Modi told Trudeau during the meeting.
Last year, India made a demarche to the Canadian government asking it to stop the Khalistan referendum being organised by a banned organisation in Ontario.

Ahead of the Modi-Trudeau meeting, the banned organisation 'Sikhs for Justice', led by designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, held the Khalistan referendum at a gurdwara in British Columbia, Canada.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), staged a protest against Canadian singer Shubh.
The BJYM also submitted a memorandum to the Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, asking him to cancel the Canadian singer's show.
In a social media post, BJYM president Tajinder Singh Tiwana said: “There is no space for Khalistanis who are the enemy of integrity and unity of India. We won't let Canadian singer Shubh to perform on the auspicious land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mumbai...If no proper action is taken then the organisers will have to face our opposition.”
The youth wing members also tore down posters of the Canadian singer's upcoming performance.
