The 16th edition of Asia Cup, a biennial cricket tournament played among Asian countries, recently concluded at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.Asia Cup 2023 was jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Four matches were played in Pakistan, while nine took place in Sri Lanka.The final match of the tournament was played between India and Sri Lanka, in which India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets and emerged as the champions.How Many Times Has India Taken Home the Asia Cup?In the final match, India dominated over Sri Lanka, as the latter chose to bat first after winning the toss. Indian pace attack ripped apart the batting line of Sri Lanka and restricted them to a meagre total of 51 runs. The Indian team comfortably chased the target in 6.1 over without losing any wicket.Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was judged Man of the Match as he bowled his dream spell in which he took six wickets in seven overs and gave away just 21 runs.Numerous records were broken in the final match between India and Sri Lanka on 17 September. The first title victory for Pakistan came in 2000, when it defeated Sri Lanka in the finals, while it grabbed the cup for the second time in 2012 after winning a thrilling final match played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Bangladesh.Apart from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the other two full-time members of the Asian Cricket Council – Bangladesh and Afghanistan – have yet to win their first titles. However, Bangladesh has reached the finals three times. The first Asia Cup cricket tournament was organized in 1984. It is the only cricket tournament held among the teams of a continent. Although it is a biennial event, COVID-19 in 2020 delayed it. But it was finally played again in 2022.
