India is Independent, Attempts to Enstrange With Russia Futile: Putin
18:38 05.10.2023 (Updated: 12:51 10.10.2023) The 20th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club titled "Fair Multipolarity: How to Ensure Security and Development for Everyone" is currently underway in Sochi.
Attempts to turn India away from Russia are pointless, this is an independent state President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday at the Valdai Discussion Club.
“The Indian leadership, I want to say, is independent, very nationally oriented and I think that these attempts [to tear India away from Russia] do not make any sense, but nevertheless they continue,” President Putin said.
Putin Lauds India's Sovereign Path
“The West is trying to create an enemy out of everyone who does not agree with their monopoly, everyone is at risk — even India, but the
Indian leadership is acting independently in the interests on its nation,” Putin remarked.
"In the civilizational sense, Russia has no borders. Just as all other civilizations have no borders - take India or China. How many representatives of China and India live in other countries of the world? Everything overlaps and interacts. And it is very good if this interaction is friendly, aimed at strengthening this state," Putin added.
Our Goal Is Creation of 'New World'
Russia and its partners are facing the mission of building a "new world," President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.
"We are facing, in essence, the task of building a new world," Putin said at the plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club.
The president said that the world saw major shifts in the past 20 years, adding that "time seems to shrink" during pivotal moments when the world order changes.
Putin said that "it should have become obvious to everyone" that any attempt by stronger nations to
impose their interests on others are unacceptable, but this lesson has not been learned.
"It was clear to us from the very beginning that attempts [by the West] to establish a monopoly are doomed to failure; the world is too complex and diverse to be brought to a single pattern, even if behind it is the enormous power of the West, accumulated through centuries of colonial policy," Putin added.
Russia was ready to make a contribution to building a new world order after the collapse of the
Soviet Union, but its willingness was misinterpreted as obedience, the Russian leader said.
"The arrogance of our so-called partners in the West was off the charts, and there is no other way to put it. The United States and its satellites have firmly set a course for hegemony," Putin said.
In recent years, the Valdai Club’s reports have analyzed in detail the dynamics of changes in the world order - first the crisis, and then the dismantling of the old world. According to some officials, the world is now witnessing the emergence of a new
multipolar system of international relations. This year, participants will reportedly try to create a picture of the new world order.
